Variety – Brie Larson will star in, produce, and make her directorial debut on the independent comedy “Unicorn Store.”

Other producers are David Bernad and Ruben Fleischer through their company The District, Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis and Terry Dougas. Jean-Luc De Fanti and Anne Woodward are exec producing.

Hercules Film Fund is financing the film and Rhea Films is producing.

“Unicorn Store,” written by Samantha McIntyre, centers on a woman who moves back in with her parents. She receives an invitation to a store that will test her ideas of what it really means to grow up.

The filmmaking team is planning to begin shooting in October. The project was first unveiled in 2012 with Miguel Arteta directing and Rebel Wilson starring.

Larson broke through with “Short Term 12” and won the best actress Academy Award earlier this year for “Room.” Her upcoming projects include Marvel’s female-centric film “Captain Marvel,” Legendary’s “Kong: Skull Island,” Lionsgate’s coming-of-age drama “The Glass Castle,” and Ben Wheatley’s crime thriller “Free Fire.”

Larson is repped by WME and Authentic Talent and Literary Management.

Kasidokostas-Latsis and Dougas produced Lily Tomlin’s “Grandma” for Sony Classics and Natalie Portman’s “Jane Got a Gun.”

Hercules Film Fund co-financed Tom Cruise’s “Mena,” directed by Doug Liman; Maika Monroe’s “Tau,” which is currently filming; and Robert Pattinson’s “Good Time.” The fund was set up by Kasidokostas-Latsis to bring European investors to Hollywood to finance wide release films.

Ben Wheatley’s action-thriller “Free Fire,” executive produced by Martin Scorsese, will be the closing-night film of the 60th BFI London Film Festival. The film’s director and cast, led by Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy and Armie Hammer, will be on the red carpet for the European premiere on Oct. 16 at London’s Odeon Leicester Square.

The pic’s stars are red hot: Larson won an Oscar this year for “Room” and is set to topline in “Captain Marvel”; Murphy leads the cast in cult TV show “Peaky Blinders” and appears next year in Christopher Nolan’s wartime epic “Dunkirk”; and Hammer features in Nate Parker’s soon-to-be-released “The Birth of a Nation.” Other cast members include Michael Smiley, Sharlto Copley, Jack Reynor and Babou Ceesay.

“Free Fire” is set in Boston in the late ‘70s. Justine (Larson) has brokered a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two Irishmen (Murphy, Smiley) and a gang led by Vernon (Copley) and Ord (Hammer), who are selling them a stash of guns. “When shots are fired in the handover, a heart-stopping game of survival ensues,” according to the press statement.
